Towards Negative CO2 Emissions with Polymers and Composites
Submit your ideas to help reaching negative CO2 emissions in the manufacturing, processing, use and at end of life of products made of polymers and composite materials. The most promising ideas will be turned into projects and supported with up to CHF 25'000.
Goals and topic
Polymers and composites have a large potential to reduce CO2 emissions and can even act as CO2 sinks (Carbon Capture and Utilisation, CCU), supported by so-called negative emission technologies (NET), to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. This is possible because polymers and various reinforcing fibres in composites, e.g. carbon, aramid and natural fibres, are based on organic chemistry and contain a very high proportion of carbon.
Ideas sought
This challenge is looking for ideas that can help to create the preconditions required to exploit the potential of NET in the field of plastics and composites.
The topics are deliberately kept very open to reach as broad a group of participants as possible. If you have ideas on how to reduce CO2 emissions in the manufacture, processing and use of products made of plastics or composites, how to close cycles, how to make sustainable raw materials usable or how to create CO2 sinks, you are in the right place. If you want to create a start-up, are an employee of a Swiss company or work or study at a Swiss university, you are entitled to apply for a financial contribution from Plastics for Zero Emission to turn your idea into a project.

By submitting an idea in this call, you confirm that you are authorised to share the intellectual property related to this idea with all other participants in the call as well as the persons and organisations involved in the NTN Innovation Booster Plastics for Zero Emission (CU Switzerland office, Advisory Board, Expert Jury).
When submitting, you can choose whether the idea should also be visible to all other users of Jointcreate by selecting the status "Published" under "Privacy Options". This option allows your idea to reach researchers and innovators from other subject areas, enabling cross-sectoral innovation.
For the project phase after the ideation workshop, we recommend concluding a team agreement among the project partners to regulate the cooperation, the rights to the results and all intellectual property issues. We will provide a template for this.
