The Lausanne-based company raised new funds to further develop Time-of-Flight light sensors. The round was led by Swisscom Ventures, along with investiere.ch, Quan Funds and private investors.
ActLight’s patented Dynamic Photodiode (DPD) is a CMOS-based photonics technology that allows to substantially enhance the efficiency and accuracy of various light sensing applications such as user detection, gesture control and visual recognition or vital signs monitoring and more. In contrast to any other photodiodes currently on the market, DPD produces a digital output instead of a weak analog current that requires amplification and generates resulting noise problems. Moreover, the DPD in Time of Flight (TOF) applications operates at low voltages, instead of the much higher voltages required by similar devices.
But the technology not only offers technological breakthrough in light sensing, it also provides the same performance with up to 10 times less energy consumption, requiring significantly less space and at a better price compared to existing solutions. The company operates in markets like healthcare, autonomous driving, drones and robotics, and mobile and wearable devices.
Recently, the Lausanne-based company announced the closing of a Series C round. Swisscom Ventures served as the lead investor, along with investiere.ch, Quan Funds and private investors.
«With these funds, we intend to pursue the development of very innovative TOF-sensors», says Serguei Okhonin, CEO and cofounder of ActLight. Furthermore, the company plans to produce demonstrators of TOF- Sensor Arrays and Single Photon Range Meters, which are designed to significantly improve the depth sensing performances in smartphones, self-driving vehicles and other devices.
